西洋工芸の美（日本民藝館） Beauty of Western Crafts (Japan Folk Crafts Museum)

2022年に日本民藝館に寄贈された、西洋工芸の村田コレクションを展示した記念展。

日本民藝館ではお馴染みのスリップウェアやガラス器などのほか、ラスター陶器などがてんじされていた。

中でも興味深かったのは、手作り感がいっぱいの、個性的に形状の鍵や錠の数々だった。

また、ウィンザーチェアなどの、素朴な味わいの多くのイスも印象的だった。

これまでも、日本民藝館には多くの西洋工芸にはあったが、村田コレクションの作品の中には、これまでのコレクションとは少しテイストが違うように思える展示品も目についた。

果たして、柳宗悦がこれらの西洋工芸作品を目にしたら、一体どのように感じるだろうか。

In addition to the familiar slipware and glassware, the Japan Folk Crafts Museum also featured luster pottery.

What was most interesting were the many uniquely shaped keys and locks that had a handmade feel to them.

Also, the many rustic chairs, such as the Windsor Chair, were impressive.

Up until now, the Japan Folk Crafts Museum has had many Western crafts, but some of the works in the Murata Collection seemed to have a slightly different taste from previous collections.

How would Soetsu Yanagi feel if he saw these Western crafts?
