コレクション展 歿後20年 若林奮（豊田市美術館） Collection exhibition 20 years after his death Isamu Wakabayashi (Toyota Municipal Museum of Art)

 

この豊田市美術館を訪れたのは初めてだった。

フランク・ロイド・ライト展が行われていたが、これはその後東京に巡回することは知っていた。

それでも、敢えて訪れようと思ったのは、コレクション展で若林奮の作品が多数展示されるからだった。

2023年は、若林奮の没後20年にあたり、各地の美術館で展覧会や特集展示が行われた。

これまでに、千葉市美術館、武蔵野美術大学美術館、横須賀美術館、そしてセゾン美術館などを訪れてきた。

この豊田市美術館のコレクション展は、その最後にあたる展示だった。

若林奮と言えば、鉄を使った作品が多く、これまで目にしてきた作品の多くが鉄を素材に制作されていた。

今回の展示でもそれは変わらないが、胡桃の葉をアルミの箱に詰め込んだ作品や、大きな木を切断して再び接合した作品など、若林奮のテーマである自然の要素が感じられる作品が印象的だった。

また、紙のノートではなく、木材を使って自分のアイデアを形に留めたような、立体ノートという作品も、そのユニークな発想に驚かされた作品だった。

若林奮の作品は、わかりにくいとよく言われるが、どの作品も明確な形、質感を持っていて、彫刻作品としてその存在をダイレクトに主張しているように思える。

It was my first time visiting the Toyota Municipal Museum of Art.

There was a Frank Lloyd Wright exhibition going on, and I knew that it would be touring to Tokyo afterwards.

However, the reason I decided to visit was because many of Isamu Wakabayashi's works were on display at the collection exhibition.

2023 marks 20 years since Isamu Wakabayashi's death, and museums across the country held exhibitions and special exhibits.

So far, I have visited Chiba City Museum of Art, Musashino Art University Museum of Art, Yokosuka Museum of Art, and Sezon Museum of Art.

This Toyota Municipal Museum of Art collection exhibition was the final one for me.

Speaking of Isamu Wakabayashi, many of his works use iron, and many of the works I have seen so far have been created using iron as a material.

This is no different in this exhibition, but Isamu Wakabayashi's works, such as a work in which walnut leaves are stuffed into an aluminum box and a work in which large trees are cut and reattached, are impressive, and show the natural elements that are the theme of Isamu Wakabayashi.

I was also surprised by his unique idea for a work called a three-dimensional notebook, which uses wood instead of a paper notebook to capture his ideas.

Isamu Wakabayashi's works are often said to be difficult to understand, but all of his works have distinct shapes and textures, and seem to directly assert their existence as sculptures.
