虫めづる日本の人々（サントリー美術館） Mushi (Insects and Other Creatures) Lovers in Japan (Suntory Museum of Art)

 

虫にまつわる、絵巻物、蒔絵の香合や重箱、着物、浮世絵や絵画、などが展示された展覧会。

虫めづる日本の人々、というテーマだが、中国からは草虫図が伝わり、その影響は朝鮮や日本に及んだ。

日本だけでなく、中国や朝鮮で、虫についてどのように工芸や美術に表現されたかを、比較する展示も見てみたかった。

お目当ては、やはり伊藤若冲の作品だったが、その3つの作品からは、改めて若冲の観察眼とその表現力、ユーモアの心、そして何よりも虫などの生き物に対する深い愛情が感じられた。

和漢三才図会などの本草学の書物における虫の取り上げ方なども紹介されていて、とても興味深かった。

An exhibition featuring picture scrolls, maki-e incense cases and jubako boxes, kimonos, ukiyo-e prints and paintings related to insects.

The theme of the exhibition is Japanese people with bugs.

I wanted to see an exhibition comparing how insects were expressed in crafts and art not only in Japan but also in China and Korea.

I was looking for the work of Ito Jakuchu, but from the three works, I felt Jakuchu's observational eyes, his expressiveness, his sense of humor, and above all, his deep affection for insects and other living things.

It was very interesting to see how insects are taken up in books on herbalism such as Wakan Sansai Zue.
