ジョルジュ・ルオー かたち、色、ハーモニー（パナソニック汐留美術館） Georges Rouault: Form, Color, Harmony (Panasonic Shiodome Museum of Art)

開館20周年を記念する展覧会。

この美術館のコレクションだけでなく、ジョルジュ・ルオー財団やポンピドゥ・センター、出光美術館などからの作品も展示されていた。

国立美術学校時代の作品に始まり、セザンヌの影響を受けた裸婦と水浴図、代表的なモチーフであるサーカスと裁判官、2度の世界大戦に大きく影響された救いを求めた宗教的な作品。

ルオーの生涯を辿りながら、画風の変化、描くテーマの変化の違いを見ていくことができた。

ルオーは、生涯に渡り自らの作品を完成させることなく、ずっと書き足し続けていたという。

その話を聞いて、ルオーという画家の本質に触れたような気がした。

また、戦争を真正面から受け止めようとしたルオーの姿勢にも感銘を受けた。

戦争に関する絵画といえば、ピカソのゲルニカが有名だが、ルオーの戦争にまつわる作品群も、戦争というものがどんなものかを後世に人々の伝え続けていくことだろう。

An exhibition commemorating the museum's 20th anniversary.

In addition to the collection of this museum, works from the Georges Rouault Foundation, the Pompidou Center, the Idemitsu Museum of Art, etc. were also exhibited.

Beginning with works from his days at the National Art School, Cézanne's influence of nudes and bathing paintings, representative motifs of the circus and judges, and religious works seeking salvation greatly influenced by the two world wars.

While tracing Rouault's life, I was able to see the differences in the changes in his painting style and the changes in his themes.

It is said that Rouault continued to add to his own work throughout his life without completing it.

Hearing that story, he felt as if he had come into contact with the essence of the painter Rouault.

He was also impressed by Rouault's willingness to face the war head-on.

Picasso's Guernica is famous when it comes to paintings about war, but Rouault's war-related works will continue to convey to future generations what war is like.
