アメリカの絵本作家、エドワード・ゴードリーの世界を紹介する展覧会。
ゴーリー直筆の原画が会場一杯に展示されて、細いペン先で描かれた独特な表現に引き込まれた。
ゴーリーは自分で絵本の物語と挿絵を描いた。絵本とは言いながら、その内容はダークな物語で、ハッピーエンドで終わらないこともしばしば。
登場するキャラクターたちもユニークで、動物のように見えるが怪物のような不思議な存在が次々と登場する。
ゴーリーは幼い頃から色々な本を読むことが好きで、大の映画ファンでもあったという。
とりわけバレエが好きで、お気に入りのバレリーナを主人公にした絵本も描き、舞台やその衣装デザインなども行っていた。
唯一無二の存在。それがエドワード・ゴーリーという人物を表すのに相応しい言葉だろう。
