フローラとファウナ（東洋文庫ミュージアム） Flora and Fauna (Tōyō Bunko Museum)

シーボルトの来日200年を記念した展覧会。

東洋文庫に収蔵されている、ヨーロッパと中国、日本の様々な動植物誌が展示された。

本草綱目、大和本草、プリニウスの博物誌、リンネの植物誌、シーボルトの日本植物誌など、この分野を代表する貴重な書物を見ることができた。

これまでに目にしたことがある書物や資料が多かったが、何度見ても、動物や植物をはじめとして、この世の中にある様々なものをまとめて、分類しようという、人間の性や執念のようなものをいつ見ても感じてしまう。

美しい花を描くのはさることながら、小さな雄蕊や雌蕊の様子まで克明に描かれた植物図鑑を見ると、自然の神秘そのものがそこには表現されているように感じられた。

何もかもが解明されてしまったように思われているが、身の回りにある動物や植物をじっくりと観察してみると、そこにはまだわかっていない何かが隠れているように思えてくる。

An exhibition commemorating the 200th anniversary of Siebold's arrival in Japan.

Various flora and fauna histories from Europe, China, and Japan, which are stored in the Toyo Bunko, were exhibited.

I was able to see valuable books representing this field, such as the botany of the plant, the Yamato plant, the natural history of Pliny, the plant history of Linnaeus, and the plant history of Siebold.

There were many books and materials that I had seen before, but no matter how many times I read them, I was reminded of the human nature and obsession to group and classify various things in this world, including animals and plants. Whenever I see something like that, I feel it.

Looking at the botanical picture book, which not only depicts beautiful flowers, but also the details of small stamens and pistils, I felt that the mystery of nature itself was expressed there.

It seems that everything has been elucidated, but if you take a closer look at the animals and plants around you, you will begin to feel that there is something hidden there that you have yet to understand.
