1940年に高知県で生まれ、2016年に他界した合田佐和子の回顧展。
アカデミックに属さず、自由に活動していたことから、これまでは正当に評価されてこなったアーティストとのこと。
1965年の最初の個展で展示されたという作品は、ガラスやビーズ、針金や毛糸を使った何とも言えないエキゾチックな雰囲気のオブジェの数々だった。
アメリカで活動していた頃は、映画に登場するグレタ・ガルボやマーロン・ブランドの姿をリアルに表現した絵画を描いていた。
その後、帰国して唐十郎や寺山修司の舞台芸術を担当し、印象的なポスターなどを製作した。
1980年代にはエジプトに滞在し、その後はパステル調の不思議な雰囲気の絵画を描いた。
とにかく、その制作スタイルや作品の多様さに驚かされた。
そして、現在の息苦しい状況からは想像もできない、1970年から1990年代にかけての当時の自由な雰囲気に、強烈なノスタルジーを感じてしまった。
