版画家たちの世界旅行（町田市立国際版画美術館） Travelling Print makers (Machida City Museum of Graphic Art)

コロナ禍の影響で途中から中止となった過去の企画を、再構成して行われた展覧会。

その過去の展覧会も、開始直後に訪れたので幸いに見ることができたが、今回見終わって感じたのは、その時の展覧会とは全く違った展覧会だな、という印象だった。

ピラネージの古代ローマの遺跡を描いたシリーズ、ナポレオンのエジプト遠征の記録などは、確かに記憶に残っていた。

アールデコ時代の画家ルグランによる、文明批判の意味が込められたマカオとユスマージュ、エリック・デジマエールの幻想的なバベルの図書館シリーズはとりわけ印象的だった。

ドービニーが、船に乗って川を降りながら描いたシリーズ作品。これまでその存在は知っていたが、初めて目にすることができた。

イギリス生まれのスタンリー・ウィリアム・ヘイター。シュルレアリスム運動に参加して、その後アメリカに渡り、版画スタジオを開いたという。

ヨルク・シュマイサーの断片、迷路と曼荼羅という作品は、かつてこの美術館で見たシュマイサーの展覧会の記憶を思い起こさせた。

そして、一番楽しみにしていたクリストの作品。凱旋門プロジェクトなどのクリストの代表的なプロジェクトの版画作品が展示されていた。

This exhibition was a reconstruction of a past project that was canceled mid-way due to the effects of the coronavirus pandemic.

I was fortunate enough to be able to see that past exhibition as I was there right after it opened, but what I felt after seeing it this time was that it was a completely different exhibition than that one.

Piranesi's series depicting the ruins of ancient Rome and the records of Napoleon's expedition to Egypt were certainly memorable.

Particularly impressive were Art Deco era painter Legrand's Macau and Husmage, which were imbued with meaning of criticism of civilization, and Eric Desimaer's fantastic Library of Babel series.

A series of works that Daubigny painted while riding a boat down the river. I had known about its existence until now, but this was the first time I was able to see it.

British-born Stanley William Hayter. He participated in the Surrealist movement and later moved to America where he opened a print studio.

Jörg Schmeisser's work Fragments, Labyrinths and Mandala reminded me of a Schmeisser exhibition I had seen at this museum.

And I was looking forward to Christo's work the most. Prints from Christo's major projects such as the Arc de Triomphe project were on display.
