以前、この美術館で行われた住友家の青銅器コレクション展を目にして、その豊富さに驚ろかされた。
中でも、大きな口を開けた虎のお腹に、人間が抱きついているというユニークな造形の虎卣を見た時の強烈な印象は、今も明確に記憶している。
この展覧会で、久しぶりに虎卣をその細かい表面の造形も含めて、じっくりと眺めることができた。
まず驚いたのは、ロビーに展示されていた、表面の人面のある大きな太鼓の青銅器。まるで来場者を迎えているように見えた。
古代中国の青銅器には、饕餮という名の伝説上の動物が描かれている。
この展覧会でも、展示品の多くに饕餮が描かれていて、その表現の違いを比較することができた。
現代人の感覚とはかけ離れた造形の古代中国の青銅器の数々。
当時の人々は、一体どのような思いで、意図で、そうした不思議な造形を創り出したのだろうか。
When I saw the bronze ware collection exhibition of the Sumitomo family held at this museum before, I was surprised at its richness.
Above all, I still clearly remember the strong impression I had when I saw the uniquely shaped tiger swastika, in which a human is hugging the belly of a tiger with its mouth wide open.
At this exhibition, for the first time in a long time, I was able to take a closer look at the tiger swastika, including its fine surface modeling.
The first thing that surprised me was the large bronze drum with a human face on the surface displayed in the lobby. It looked like it was welcoming guests.
Ancient Chinese bronze ware depicts a mythical animal named Taotie.
In this exhibition as well, many of the exhibits depict Taotie, and I was able to compare the differences in their expressions.
Numerous ancient Chinese bronze wares with shapes that are far from modern people's senses.
What were the thoughts and intentions of the people of that time when they created these mysterious forms?
